Follow these basic foot care tips for happy, healthy feet.
Inspect your feet regularly. Look out for thickened or discoloured nails, cracks between toes and peeling or scaling of skin on the soles of the feet (it could be Athlete’s foot)
Wash your feet regularly. Make sure to dry them completely.
Cut your nails regularly. Straight across to avoid ingrown toenails. People with diabetes or poor circulation should avoid treating their own feet, because they are more prone to infection. Our Chiropodist can help if you need it.
Gently file and dry or callused skin.
Moisturize your feet daily. Better if it’s following a shower, bath or foot soak. Avoid putting cream between your toes.
Wear well-fitting and supportive shoes. Look for shoes later in the day when the feet are more swollen and make sure you get measured properly for size AND width. Replace shoes regularly.
Wear a clean, fresh pair of socks daily.
Be cautious when using home remedies and over-the-counter products. Self-treatment can turn a small problem into a big one.
Don’t ignore foot pain. Foot pain is not normal. Contact our office if foot or ankle pain is persistent
