Shockwave for Heel Pain

Shockwave therapy. An effective treatment of heel pain due to plantar fasciitis or Achilles tenodonitis.

Shockwave therapy is a safe but aggressive method of physical therapy where the chronically injured area of your foot is targeted with several high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate an inflammatory response to heal a chronic injury.

Shockwave therapy stimulates blood flow and the formation of new blood vessels increasing your body’s ability to heal itself. Shockwave therapy also breaks up calcification and chronic scarring of injured tissue. Shockwave therapy can provide a sustained pain-relieving effect to the injured area making you feel better right away.

Shockwave therapy is commonly used on chronic injuries including chronic Achilles tendonitis , chronic plantar fasciitis , heel spurs, Hallux limitus, Hallux rigidus and Morton’s neuroma.

Shockwave therapy works without using x-rays or medication; Sho ckwave therapy uses your immune system to heal chronic injuries. Reduced pain and improved mobility is quite common with Shockwave therapy. Adverse effects are minor and may also eliminate your need for surgery.

The initial acoustic shockwaves can be uncomfortable in the beginning of treatment but becomes tolerable at the treatment continues. Shockwave therapy is an intense treatment that most people tolerate well. The Chiropodist will choose the best settings for shockwave therapy based on your tolerance to pain.

Shockwave therapy triggers your bodies natural response for healing to treat your heel pain.

Shockwave therapy triggers an inflammatory response which is the body’s natural response for healing and we suggest that you avoid using anti-inflammatory medications or icing following the treatment. Any pain should generally subside within 24 to 48 hours.

Our Chiropodist will assess your foot complaint and determine if Shockwave therapy would be a suitable treatment option for you. We use the Swiss DolorClast® Shockwave Device designed specifically for orthopedic use.
